The artist belonged to the Air Training Corps 23F Squadron, Watford, Hertfordshire, then 1921 Squadron, Catford, South East London. He enjoyed flying in many different types of aeroplane and something of his interest in movement is accountable to the aerodynamic manoeuvres and aerobatics he undertook at this time.
