Title: '...au pied de la lettre' Date: 2001 Materials: Stainless Steel covered book made in a limited edition of 35 containing 32 word-pages. These change their meaning and structure on being reflected, except in several cases where a surprise awaits the unsuspecting. The book contains an informed and illuminating introduction by the British Museum's expert in ancient languages, Dr. Irving Finkel. He states that 'with this work Martin has touched on something new. One looks again at his lettered installations..., peering down into his mirror sheet-of-water, where unguessed secrets lie! 'This word-book continues Martin's investigation into meaning through movement and how successive layers can be peeled away, ...and cajoled into revealing a second meaning, sprung out of it at the foot.'
